The 2025 Formula 1 season is set for its second race this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit.
With the season’s first Sprint weekend around the corner, here’s everything you need to know about the Chinese Grand Prix.
A Return to Shanghai
After a four-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chinese Grand Prix made its return in 2024, attracting over 200,000 spectators.
The Shanghai International Circuit is known for its flowing layout and one of the longest straights in Formula 1, measuring 1.2 kilometers, which promises thrilling racing and a number of opportunities for overtakes.
The circuit has a rich history in Formula 1, having hosted its first race in 2004.
It’s been the stage for many iconic moments over the years, including Michael Schumacher's final career victory in 2006 and Lewis Hamilton's dramatic title-deciding mistake in 2007.
The unpredictable weather in Shanghai, ranging from wet conditions to significant temperature swings, has also played a major role in shaping race outcomes.
As the teams prepare for the weekend ahead, they will have to readapt to the unique demands of this challenging circuit, including its high tyre wear and technical corners.
Franco’s Role
While Franco won't be racing this weekend, he will be present in Shanghai as part of the Alpine F1 Team, serving as the official test and reserve driver.
Franco will support the team behind the scenes, gaining valuable experience and staying prepared for any opportunity to step in, as he did in Melbourne last weekend.
Looking Ahead
The Chinese Grand Prix is always one to look forward to, with the event secured on the calendar until 2030.
As the teams and drivers gear up for the challenges of the Shanghai International Circuit, fans worldwide can anticipate a weekend filled with excitement, strategy, and high-speed drama.
