Franco Colapinto’s racing career is one of raw talent, relentless determination, and a rapid rise through the motorsport ranks.
The 21-year-old was born in Pilar, Argentina, and he’s been on a meteoric rise in motorsport ever since he first got behind the wheel. Franco’s story is one of chasing big dreams—and making them happen.
Like many drivers, Franco began his journey in karting, where his natural talent shone through. But Franco’s never been the type to stay in his comfort zone. Determined to prove himself on the world stage, he packed his bags and headed to Europe, where he started competing against the best young drivers around.
In 2018, Franco transitioned to single-seaters, making his debut in the Spanish Formula 4 Championship with Drivex School. It didn’t take long for him to make his mark — Franco clinched his first win in only his second race weekend. By the end of the season, he had amassed 11 podiums and three race wins, finishing third in the Drivers’ Championship and securing the Rookie of the Year title.
The following years saw Franco climb the motorsport ladder, competing in the Formula Renault Eurocup, Toyota Racing Series, and Euroformula Open. His consistent performances and race victories highlighted his adaptability and skill across various racing formats.
In 2022, Franco stepped into the FIA Formula 3 Championship, initially with Van Amersfoort Racing and later with MP Motorsport. His tenure in F3 saw him amass notable achievements, including a sprint race victory at Imola.
Franco got his first taste of Formula 2 in 2023, making a brief but valuable appearance with MP Motorsport during the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi. It was a big step up, but Franco embraced the challenge, using the opportunity to gain crucial experience in the sport.
But 2024 was the big one, as Franco got the call-up to Formula 1. He became the first Argentine driver in F1 since 2001. Over nine Grands Prix, Franco showcased his potential, notably finishing eighth in Azerbaijan, marking the first points for an Argentine driver since 1982.
Off-track, Franco is as down-to-earth as they come. Laughing and joking with his team, making fun of himself on social media, and showing off his love for Argentinian asado - his favourite food in the world - he has become a fan favourite on the circuit.
As he continues to develop with Alpine, the motorsport world cannot wait to find out what's next for him…
