Franco is about to embark on one of the biggest challenges of his career: transitioning to Alpine and stepping further into the world of Formula 1.
While the Argentine driver has already proven his speed on track, he now faces an equally tricky task—navigating the French language!
From racing terminology to his beloved Argentinian traditions, here’s a look at the words Franco will need to master to help him settle into his new surroundings.
The Racing Lingo: From ‘Carrera’ to ‘Course’
While speed is a universal language, communication with the team is key.
Here are some essential motorsport words Franco will need to swap from Spanish to French:
🏎️ Carrera → Course (Race)
🏁 Bandera a cuadros → Drapeau à damier (Checkered flag)
⏩ Sobrepaso → Dépassement (Overtaking)
🛞 Neumáticos → Pneus (Tyres)
🔧 Parada en boxes → Arrêt au stand (Pit stop)
⚡ Velocidad → Vitesse (Speed)
📢 Escudería → Écurie (Racing team)
When it comes to instructions in French, Franco might have to quickly get used to hearing phrases like "Attention à l'usure des pneus" (Watch out for tyre wear) or "À fond dans le virage!" (Flat out in the corner!).
Bringing a Taste of Argentina to France
Beyond the racetrack, Franco will want to introduce his French teammates to some Argentinian staples.

⚽ Fútbol → Football (Easy one, but let’s hope his French teammates don’t support River Plate!)
💙 Hincha de Boca → Supporter de Boca (How he’ll proudly introduce himself in any football conversation)
🚴 Ciclismo → Cyclisme (His favourite off-track training method)
Final Lap: Adjusting to French
Between debriefs in the Alpine garage, enjoying an asado, and cycling through the countryside, Franco is in for an exciting adventure.
One thing is certain—whether he’s chasing vitesse on track or sharing a maté with teammates, he’s bringing a little bit of Argentina to the French outfit. And if he ever finds himself lost in translation, at least “pole position” stays the same in every language!
